9/5/2022 – In a shocking development, Hans Niemann, the tournament underdog, defeated Magnus Carlsen with the black pieces to take the sole lead at the Sinquefield Cup. Niemann’s victory prompted him to cross the 2700-rating barrier. CBM 208: Maxime shines and Matthias scores - Review by Nagesh Havanur

9/4/2022 – The ChessBase Magazine offers a window to the world of professional chess and it provides arsenal for the tournament player. The latest issue, CBM #209, is just out. Meanwhile here is a review of the recent issue, CBM #208. It offers games from two major events, Superbet Chess Classic, Bucharest 2022 and European Individual Championship. 2055 games (49 annotated), 11 opening surveys, 12 demo lectures and exercises for training. Annotators include Anish Giri, Matthias Blübaum, Gabriel Sargissian, Yuriy Kuzubov and Karsten Müller among others. The icing on the cake is a flashback on the 1997 FIDE World Championship Special with 323 games and a commentary.

25 years later: Deep Blue vs Kasparov

9/3/2022 – Last week BBC Four brought together a group of personalities that, 25 years ago, were part of the epic struggle between the reigning World Champion and a million-dollar computer built by IBM. 9/3/2022 – The Ukrainian women's team achieved something truly spectacular when they won the gold medal in the women's section at the 44th Chess Olympiad 2022. We speak to board no. 1 and 2 of the team and two of the best chess players of the country for several years now - Mariya and Anna Muzychuk. They talk about their experience of playing in India, how tough it was to win the Olympiad, and also show us the critical moments in their games. 50 years ago: Bobby Fischer is the 11th World Champion!

9/1/2022 – After twenty games the score was 11½-8½ for Challenger Bobby Fischer, who needed 12½ to win the title. In game 21 he had the black pieces, gained a distinct advantage, but then allowed Boris Spassky to get a drawn position. However, when the still-reigning World Champion adjourned, he sealed a losing move. The next day, September 1st, 1972, resigned by telephone on. At 2:35 p.m. Chief Arbiter Lothar Schmid congratulated Fischer and announced in the hall that Bobby was the new champion.

9/1/2022 – The Chess Olympiad has brought movement into the world rankings. The top junior players in particular gained a lot of rating points while a number of established top players lost rating points. Magnus Carlsen remains the clear number one by a large margin.

Monicka Socko wins the European Women’s Chess Championship

9/1/2022 – Polish grandmaster Monika Socko was the clear winner of the European Women’s Championship which took place at the Don Giovanni Hotel in Prague. Socko scored 8½/11 points to leave a 5-player chasing pack a half point back. Azerbaijani representatives Gunay Mammadzada and Ulviyya Fataliyeva grabbed second and third place, respectively.
