Shankland extends lead at the Capablanca Memorial

5/17/2018 – Just a short time after the end of the US Championship, Sam Shankland continues his winning ways in the Capablanca Memorial event in Havana. His score now after the seventh round is an impressive 5½/7 now a full point ahead of Alexy Dreev the nearest competition. 5/16/2018 – The ninth game of the Women's World Championship match between reigning World Champion Tan Zhongyi and challenger Ju Wenjun ended in a draw. Before the tenth and final game Ju now leads 5-4 and Tan must win the tenth game to reach a tie-break. However, Tan was lucky to get this chance. Piorun leads Polish Championship

5/16/2018 – In Warsaw, the Polish Championships have started with a pair of round-robin tournaments with ten participants, for men and women from May 12-21. The all-GM open tournament (which has only men) includes two players over 2700 Elo and an Elo average of 2630. After four rounds, defending champion Kacper Piorun (pictured) leads with 3½ / 4. 5/10/2018 – TePe Sigeman & Co took place in Malmo, Sweden from May 4th to 8th, with Grandmasters Vidit Gujrathi, Alexander Morozevich, Nils Grandelius, Benjamin Gledura, Aryan Tari and IM Linus Johansson. All six players of the ACCENTUS Grandmaster Tournament are now known. World Champion Magnus Carlsen will also face world number 3 Shakhriyar Mamedyarov (Azerbaijan) in Biel.
