Wissmann wins in Finland, solvers move to Poland and the Netherlands

2/27/2023 – The 44th Finnish Championship in solving took place in the Chess Arena in Helsinki. In the close contest for the top honours, five solvers managed to score more than 50 points. Dutch GM solver Dolf Wissmann missed only 1.5 points and emerged as a deserved winner, ahead of two other GMs, Martynas Limontas of Lithuania and Jorma Paavilainen of Finland, who shared the second place. | Photos: Hannu Harkola

Aronian shines in rapid playoff, wins WR Chess Masters

2/26/2023 – Levon Aronian convincingly prevailed in a three-player rapid tiebreaker to win the first edition of the WR Chess Masters. After quickly drawing their round-9 game, Aronian and Dommaraju Gukesh saw Ian Nepomniachtchi beating Vincent Keymer to join them in the lead. Grand Chess Tour names field of elite players to compete for $1.4M purse

2/25/2023 – Full tour player invitations for the 2023 GCTs edition were extended to nine players. Three players qualified by finishing 1st through 3rd in the 2022 Grand Chess Tour. 2/25/2023 – Vincent Keymer scored his second win at the WR Chess Masters in round 8, as he defeated Wesley So with the black pieces and left him out of the race for tournament victory. Levon Aronian and Gukesh are sharing the lead on 5/8 points and will face each other in the final round. Sharjah Masters 2023

2/24/2023 – The tournament will be held at the world's biggest chess club, one that covers an area of 34,000 square feet, including the main hall, which can accommodate up to 500 players. The 6th Sharjah Masters 2023 will take place from May 16th (arrival) to 26th (departure), 2023. Entry fees range from 0 to 300 USD (depending on title and rating), the prizes from 300 to 10,000 USD. Sharjah is the third-most populous city in the United Arab Emirates, after Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

2/23/2023 – Chris Ward is showing us into an interesting endgame, which occurred between two strong US chess players a couple of weeks ago. The dragon variation, which we look at, leads us to an endgame with 7 pawns vs. 1 pawn, but with a full rook less! Which side would you rather be? At this point, the engine says = 0.00 equal position. ECU on Russia transferring to Asia

2/22/2023 – In January the Russian Chess Federation applied for membership of the Asian Chess Federation and announced its intention to withdraw from ECU. Now Russian players who live in Europe and do not want to follow the RCF to Asia will be permitted to transfer to the ECU without paying fees to Russia and FIDE.
