Cyprus to host fourth stage of FIDE Women’s Grand Prix

4/5/2023 – The fourth and decisive leg of the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix will take place in Cyprus on May 15-28. The tournament will be held at the Hilton Hotel in Cyprus’ capital, Nicosia. Featuring 12 ballrooms and state-of-the-art technology meeting rooms, totalling 1,800 square meters of space for events, the venue is a very suitable option for both leisure and business visitors.

Nils Grandelius clinches Reykjavik Open with final-round win

4/5/2023 – Nils Grandelius scored an impressive 7½ out of 9 to become the outright winner at the 2023 edition of the Reykjavik Open. The Swedish grandmaster, who was the second seed in Iceland, beat Quentin Loiseau in the final round to claim first place. With over 400 participants in the traditional event, it was not surprising that seven players finished a half point behind the winner. Chessable Masters: Caruana and Nakamura reach winners’ bracket final

4/5/2023 – Day 2 of the Chessable Masters saw Hikaru Nakamura and Fabiano Caruana advancing to the winners’ bracket final in Division I, thanks to victories over Wesley So and Vladislav Artemiev, respectively. In the losers’ bracket, Magnus Carlsen and Levon Aronian scored wins to remain in contention for first place. In Division II, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave and Vladimir Kramnik are set to face each other in the next phase.

Chessable Masters: Close matches, Artemiev beats Carlsen

4/4/2023 – A total of 56 players are participating in the Chessable Masters Tournament. The players are distributed in three divisions, each taking place with a double-elimination format. Four rapid games (15+3) are played in each confrontation, and if a match ends in a draw, an Armageddon decider follows. This format ensures excitement, surprises and plenty of mistakes. The biggest surprise on Day 1 was Magnus Carlsen’s loss to Vladislav Artemiev in Division I.

At only 16 years old, Praggnanandhaa has already achieved remarkable success, including winning the Julius Baer Challenge Championship 2022. In our interview, Praggnanandhaa shared his insights on a range of topics, from his early days in chess to his current training regimen with coach R. B. Ramesh and future goals. He also discussed his experiences playing against some of the world's top players, as well as his thoughts on chess strategy and the importance of mental preparation. 4/1/2023 – In a unique and exciting matchup, Grandmasters Iniyan and Praggnanandhaa recently played a blitz game in our ChessBase studio, using an old mechanical Garde chess clock. This was the first time that the two players had used such a clock, adding an element of unpredictability and challenge to the game. As they faced off in stormy Hamburg, the sound of thunder could be heard rolling in the background, adding to the intensity of the match. FIDE ratings April 2023

4/1/2023 – There was only one change in the top ten places in the world rankings in March: Hikaru Nakamura climbed to fifth place after his success in the American Cup. Nakamura now has a 7-point lead over Anish Giri in sixth place. Vincent Keymer has risen from 2699 points to 2700 thanks to two games played in the German Bundesliga and now occupies the 38th place in the world ranking.
