7/11/2024 – The first three rounds of rapid action at the SuperUnited Rapid & Blitz Tournament in Croatia saw Maxime Vachier-Lagrave scoring two wins and one draw to become the early sole leader in Zagreb. MVL defeated Levon Aronian and Ivan Saric in the first two rounds before holding a draw in a pawn-down endgame against Wesley So. Two grandmaster tournaments in Biel at once

7/10/2024 – The 57th edition of Biel Chess Festival begins this Saturday and will once again attract chess enthusiasts from all over the world to the watchmaking metropolis. There will now be two invitational tournaments for the elite: the GMT-Masters and the GMT-Challengers, which will each be contested by six players. The field of participants will be led by the world number 8, Praggnanandhaa from India. There is also a whole range of tournaments on the programme for amateurs, including a new one-week tournament in the morning and the physicians' tournament. Registrations for the open tournaments are still possible at short notice.

Swedish Championship: Vitaly Sivuk retains title

7/10/2024 – The Swedish Championship 2024 featured several categories, from a youth tournament to the Sverigemästarklassen, a round-robin tournament with classical time control for Sweden’s top chess players. The tournament took place in Växjö from June 28 to July 7. GM Vitaly Sivuk defended his national title by obtaining an undefeated 6½/9 score. GM Ziaur Rahman (1974-2024) from Bangladesh dies during game

7/8/2024 – In the 12th round of the Bangladesh Championship, 50-year-old GM Ziaur Rahman suffered a heart attack after his 25th move in his game against GM Enamul Hossein. He died before he could be taken to hospital. Rahman was Bangladesh's second grandmaster after GM Niaz Murshed, and he was also a 15-time national champion and represented Bangladesh in 17 Chess Olympiads.
