Game of the Week #665

Last week we promised to return to the European Individual Championship, which German grandmaster Matthias Bluebaum won for the second time in his career! Bluebaum has a strong positional style, but his secret weapon seems to be his strong calculation skills. Most of his games were technical, but when Daniil Yuffa launched a creative counterattack, Bluebaum had to come up with a series of defensive moves to stay in control.

Warm-up question: What would you play here with White?

This week's show

In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace of the game.
