Freestyle Challenge: Firouzja beats Carlsen, Abdusattorov beats Ding

2/12/2024 – The first (classical) games of the quarter-finals at the Freestyle G.O.A.T. Chess Challenge took place on Sunday. World number one Magnus Carlsen and world champion Ding Liren both suffered defeats with the black pieces, as they were outplayed by Alireza Firouzja and Nodirbek Abdusattorov, respectively. Baadur Jobava claims fourth Georgian national title

2/11/2024 – Baadur Jobava won the Georgian Chess Championship for a fourth time in his career after scoring 7/9 points at the 2024 edition of the event, which ended earlier this week. The tournament took place in Tbilisi from January 29 to February 7 as a 10-player single round-robin with a classical time control. Nikolozi Kacharava and defending champion Mikheil Mchedlishvili finished in shared second place with 5½ points each. Freestyle Challenge: Abdusattorov beats Carlsen, wins rapid section

2/10/2024 – Nodirbek Abdusattorov was the top scorer in the rapid stage of the Freestyle G.O.A.T. Challenge in Germany. The Uzbek prodigy was the only player to remain undefeated in the single round-robin, and got to collect four wins in seven rounds, including a fine positional victory over Magnus Carlsen. 2/10/2024 – The first day of the preliminary rapid stage in the Freestyle G.O.A.T. Challenge saw Vincent Keymer emerging as sole leader with 3½/4 points. To reach this score, the German star defeated Ding Liren, Fabiano Caruana and Levon Aronian, while his one draw was signed in his game against Magnus Carlsen. Gukesh D and Nodirbek Abdusattorov are sharing second place a half point back.

Ding Liren in Hamburg

2/9/2024 – To the surprise of everyone he won the 2023 World Championship in Astana, but then disappeared from public view. Ding Liren played just a very few games – until the Tata Steel tournament in Wijk ann Zee. There he did not do well at all. Wenjun's masterpiece against Firouzja - The Underdog

2/9/2024 – The Tata Steel 2024 tournament is over, and the masters tournament had at least one clear Underdog with Ju Wenjun, as the only player with a rating under 2600! But despite this setting, she won against the third highest rated player - Alireza Firouzja. Carlsen set to face Ding Liren and co. at Weissenhaus Freestyle G.O.A.T. Challenge

2/9/2024 – A new super tournament starts in Weissenhaus, near Hamburg, Germany, today. But it is not just any other super tournament. This event is introduced by none other than the World no.1 Magnus Carlsen himself and it will be in Fischer-Random format or as Carlsen likes to say, Freestyle. Hence, the name WEISSENHAUS Freestyle Chess G.O.A.T. Challenge. Carlsen's handpicked opponents for this eight-player tournament are: Fabiano Caruana (USA), Ding Liren (CHN), Alireza Firouzja (FRA), Nodirbek Abdusattorov (UZB), D Gukesh, Vincent Keymer (GER) and Levon Aronian (USA). Carlsen beats resilient Firouzja, wins Chessable Masters

2/7/2024 – Magnus Carlsen won the Chessable Masters after defeating Alireza Firouzja in the Grand Final Reset of Division I. Firouzja started the day with two wins in a row, and obtained a draw in game 4 to set up a rematch. In the Reset, however, it was Carlsen who scored first. Firouzja then failed to make the most of an advantageous position, as he allowed Carlsen to turn the tables and get a 2-0 final victory.
