We would love to see your Fritz 19 games!

11/20/2023 – For the Fritz 19 launch, we let six different players, ranging from elo 1839 up to 2614, battle the six engine player characters. Twice, the computer escaped with extraordinary swindle tactics, causing a stalemate for Elisabeth Paehtz, and Jan Jettel! The engine showed us beautiful tactical moves, to decide the outcome against Leon Mendonca, and Svitlana Demchenko. The two human victories were determined through hard fights in endgames, by Robert Ris, and Polina Karelina. Overall, the experiment was a success: We wanted fun, and entertaining games, and we got them. Now, it is your turn!

Grivas – A delightful Miniature

11/20/2023 – In the recent European National Teams Championship 2023, which is under way in the town of Budva (Montenegro), a delightful miniature was played in the sixth round. It was a sensation in the match Greece-Azerbaijan, where the white player was 126 rating points lower than his opponent, who defeated a player famous for his stubborn defensive skills! It is definitely worthwhile to follow the instructive commentary of GM Efstratios Grivas.

Jon Speelman: Calculation without excessive genuflection

11/19/2023 – This week, I’m looking at calculation and what’s reasonable for a mere human being without excessive genuflection to our silicon lords and masters. One thing that the silicon brings us is a totally unprejudiced “eye”, but seeing far enough in difficult positions over the board is something any competitive player needs to develop properly. | Pictured: Vidit Gujrathi | Photo: FIDE / Stev Bonhage

Polina Karelina vs. Fritz 19 - The Timid (Strong Club Player)

11/18/2023 – The final game is upon us, and Polina Karelina has to win against the timid mouse character. If not, Fritz 19 won the battle against the humans, since the engine leads with 3:2. The Woman Candidate Master of the Bahamas has a FIDE rating of 1839, but is brave enough to fight the strong club player level! Luckily, the cowardly opponent is the weakest animal of Fritz 19. But on this difficulty level, it is a mighty mouse!

Jan Jettel vs. Fritz 19 - The Swindler (Strong Club Player)

11/17/2023 – Fritz 19 is in the lead again with 2.5 to 1.5. But maybe our strong club level player Jan Jettel, perhaps better known as Schachnotizen, can defeat the tricky engine opponent. You either love, or hate to play against an ultra-aggressive club player, who pushes pawns forward non-stop, and sacrifices pieces with delight. The Swindler is exactly this. In the dramatic battle with Jan Jettel, the fox character pulls off a couple of tricks in typical swindler fashion. A game, Jan will probably never forget!
