Ordering ChessBase software as a download is quick and convenient. This is how most users now buy ChessBase software! On the other hand, it is also a nice sight to keep the ChessBase treasures in the neat DVD box in our bookcase.
However, who still has a DVD drive in their computer? There's a solution for this too (since 2019): an activation key is printed under the DVD in every DVD box, which you can use to download and install the software. But why even bother with a DVD? Exactly!
In the future, there will be no more DVDs in the ChessBase packs, they will only include the activation code. And the plastic packaging will no longer be needed - instead, you will receive an elegant booklet, which will look good on the bookshelf and which can be given as a gift.
And how do you install the programmes with the activation key? It is described in the package. Enter the serial number in the ChessBase shop under ‘My downloads’, then the product will appear in the download list and can be downloaded, or you can view the new Fritztrainer directly in the Books portal with just one click.
For the long-time fans of our ChessBase products, all titles will continue to be available in a good-looking package. And for download customers, everything will remain as it was.
There are still a number of good reasons to say goodbye to the DVD as a data carrier. For example, the DVD format is limited to 4.7 gigabytes. However, ever larger databases and improved video formats require more storage space. Modern notebooks no longer have DVD drives because DVDs are no longer used elsewhere. DVDs can also become scratched or dirty and are then no longer usable. This cannot happen with the download installer.
Still have questions? Just give it a try! For example, with Elisabeth Pähtz, the strong German grandmaster who recently produced a new Fritztrainer.
