The US grandmaster won the first game with black and drew the next one to get a 4½-1½ lead in the 5-day match - wins in the classical games are worth 3 points in the "Hans Niemann against the world" series. 8/14/2024 – From 14 to 25 of August, the Georgian capital will host the first of six tournaments where 20 top women players from around the world will compete, shaping the future of female chess. This inaugural event features a strong lineup, including two former Women's World Champions - Alexandra Kosteniuk and Mariya Muzychuk - alongside some of the most promising players in the chess world today.

8/10/2024 – Hungary has played a significant role in chess for hundreds of years, and has produced many world-famous chess players. The names Lajos Portisch, Péter Lékó, Zoltán Almási, Ildikó Mádl, Richárd Rapport, and the Polgár family are known worldwide. The European country will host the 45th Chess Olympiad next month. The Hungarian Post pays tribute to the Olympiad with a commemorative stamp.
