FIDE/ WFCC special project

7/29/2024 – The FIDE Centenary celebrations include some new and promising projects in cooperation with the World Federation for Chess Competition. In November, the World Youth Solving Championships for girls and boys will be held in Florianópolis, the capital of southern Brazil's Santa Catarina state, where juniors will be solving eight problems and endgames on November 4, during the free day of the World Youth Chess Championships. You can try your hand at a typical puzzle like the ones they will get.

Starting Friday: World Rapid and Blitz Team Championships

The British Chess Championships have started in Hull

7/28/2024 – The 110th edition of the British Chess Championship is taking place from 27 July to 4 August in Hull. The main event is a 9-round Swiss open featuring 86 participants. Defending champion Michael Adams is one of four players rated 2600 or above - David Howell, Gawain Jones and Luke McShane are the remaining three. The winner of the two previous editions among the women, Lan Yao, is also in the mix.

Vachier-Lagrave beats Firouzja in Armageddon, bags CrunchLabs Masters

7/25/2024 – Maxime Vachier-Lagrave won the third event in this year's Champions Chess Tour, the CrunchLabs Masters, after beating Alireza Firouzja in the Armageddon decider of the Division I Grand Final. MVL thus secured a spot in the tour's Finals, set to take place over-the-board at the end of the year. The deciding match saw the contenders playing a number of technical battles, with four games ending in draws to set up a sudden-death tiebreaker.

New Guinness Chess World Record

7/24/2024 – On July 20, 2024, for the 100th anniversary of its founding, FIDE planned a monumental event. It is a quest to set the Guinness World Record for the most chess games played in 24 hours, asking players all over the world to help achieve this goal. They are asked to play at least one 5-min game on one of the platforms or applications joining the World Records Attempt, between July 20, 2024 00:00:00 CEST and July 21, 2024 00:00:00 CEST.
