Rubinstein Memorial: Shevchenko and Navara tie for first

8/24/2021 – The 57th Rubinstein Memorial was again held as a big chess festival in Polanica Zdroj, Poland. Kirill Shevchenko and David Navara finished the GM tournament tied on points (6 out of 9). The FIDE Online Chess Olympiad has started

8/22/2021 – The 2021 FIDE Online Olympiad is taking place from August 20th to September 15th. It is a national teams event in which all federations affiliated to FIDE have the right to participate. Teams consist of six players, with a minimum of three female players and two junior players. Played online on chess.com, the event features two main stages: the Divisions stage, and the Play-offs stage. All games are played with a 15 minutes + 5 seconds increment per move time control.

Elina Danielian wins the European Women’s Championship

8/21/2021 – The European Women’s Championship came to an end on Friday, with Armenia’s Elina Danielian winning the title as the only player who collected 9/11 points in Iasi, Romania. In the final round, Danielian clinched clear first place by beating Estonian WIM Mai Narva on top board. Draws were seen on boards 2 to 6. European Women’s Championship, 11th and last round - Live

8/20/2021 – Today, 20 August 2021, the European Women's Championship in Iasi/Romania comes to an end, and with one round to go five players still have chances to win: Elina Danielian and Juliya Osmak lead with 8.0/10 each and three players with 7.5/10 each share places three to five: Olivia Kiolbasa, Mai Narva and Nataliya Buksa. In the eleventh and final round Danielian plays with White against Narva, Osmak has White against Bela Khotenashvili and Kiolbasan plays with White against Buksa. 8/18/2021 – At the height of his career Akiba Rubinstein (1 December 1880 - 15 March 1961) was considered a possible challenger for World Champion Dr. Emanuel Lasker, but the two never played a World Championship match. Rubinstein was considered to be particularly strong in the endgame, and Rubinstein's victory over Richard Reti in the tournament in Gothenburg 1920 is regarded as a typical example of his endgame skills. Karsten Müller has now taken a closer look at this endgame to find out whether and when the position was actually won for Black.
