9/8/2022 – 20 years ago today, on September 8, 2002, the match Russia vs. The Rest of the World began in Moscow. It was a rapid match with the world's best players at that time. The Russians wanted to follow up on the USSR vs. the World matches from 1970 and 1984, but things did not go as desired. 9/8/2022 – In the last few days the chess world has been in enormous upheaval after the World Champion Magnus Carlsen withdrew from the Sinquefield Cup in protest after three rounds, with an unspoken accusation of cheating of the player who had defeated him, US rising star Hans Niemann. Lines were drawn, accusations made and defenses stated. Here is a full overview of both sides of this explosive controversy.

9/7/2022 – In his “Game of the Week” show #532 Merijn van Delft looks at the controversial game between Magnus Carlsen and Hans Niemann at the Sinquefield Cup 2022. Carlsen lost with White and then withdrew from the tournament. The tweet, with which Carlsen announced his withdrawal caused a fervent and on-going debate whether Niemann cheated when he won against Carlsen. Niemann’s victory prompted him to cross the 2700-rating barrier.
