9/7/2022 – In his “Game of the Week” show #532 Merijn van Delft looks at the controversial game between Magnus Carlsen and Hans Niemann at the Sinquefield Cup 2022. Carlsen lost with White and then withdrew from the tournament. The tweet, with which Carlsen announced his withdrawal caused a fervent and on-going debate whether Niemann cheated when he won against Carlsen. 9/7/2022 – A major highlight of this year's Chess Olympiad was the stellar performance of the India 2 team. Composed mostly of teenage grandmasters, it finished third and narrowly missed gold. 9/7/2022 – In the Ragozin Variation of the Queen's Gambit (1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nf3 d5 4.Nc3 Bb4) Black takes an active path with 4…Bb4. In his theory article in the current ChessBase magazine, Roven Vogel examines the continuation 5.Qa4+ Nc6 6.e3, which has already been tested many times by Vincent Keymer. Our author has processed no less than eight games of the German number one in his article and shows that "both sides have possibilities to create interesting play in many places" and sees this "as a chance to play an interesting game of chess". 9/4/2022 – The ChessBase Magazine offers a window to the world of professional chess and it provides arsenal for the tournament player. The latest issue, CBM #209, is just out. Meanwhile here is a review of the recent issue, CBM #208. It offers games from two major events, Superbet Chess Classic, Bucharest 2022 and European Individual Championship. 2055 games (49 annotated), 11 opening surveys, 12 demo lectures and exercises for training. Annotators include Anish Giri, Matthias Blübaum, Gabriel Sargissian, Yuriy Kuzubov and Karsten Müller among others. The icing on the cake is a flashback on the 1997 FIDE World Championship Special with 323 games and a commentary.

9/4/2022 – Hans Niemann joined Magnus Carlsen in the lead of the Sinquefield Cup by beating Shakhriyar Mamedyarov with the white pieces in Saturday’s second round. The tournament underdog kicked off the event with two whites and is set to face Carlsen with black in round 3. 9/3/2022 – Last week BBC Four brought together a group of personalities that, 25 years ago, were part of the epic struggle between the reigning World Champion and a million-dollar computer built by IBM. The broadcast reunited the chess masters and AI pioneers who went into battle at the time, to test the limits of human and artificial intelligence.
