Saint Louis Super Swiss recap: Jacobson the clear winner

4/16/2023 – The first-ever Saint Louis Super Swiss tournament took place last month at the Saint Louis University. The turnout was stacked with titled players, largely thanks to local students participating from Saint Louis University, Webster University, and The University of Missouri. Scoring 6.5/9 and winning clear first place was GM Brandon Jacobson, who won his final two games against GMs Lazaron Bruzon and Yasser Quesada. The 9-round Swiss open saw two players scoring 7½ points, Alexandr Fier and Aravindh Chithambaram. Fier was declared champion thanks to his better tiebreaker score. Tricky

4/11/2023 – In endings with opposite-coloured bishops the defending side can often draw, sometimes even when the defender is one, two or three pawns down. However, these endgames are still tricky and the defender has to be careful. In the diagram position it is White to move and draw but in the acutal game White lost. Can you do better?
