The primary aim of this article by International Arbiter Tamas Gyomber is to shed light on these areas through some field examples.

2/12/2023 – In round 9 of the FIDE Women's Grand Prix in Munich, Alexandra Kosteniuk drew with Black against Nana Dzagnidze and now leads the tournament with 7.0/9. One point behind follows Humpy Koneru who won against Elisabeth Pähtz. In round 10 on Sunday Kosteniuk and Koneru will play against each other. 2/11/2023 – Rapid interviews are fun: interviewer and guest face each other in an epic rapid chess battle. The chess guest not only has to face the interviewer's questions, but also concentrate on the chess game at the same time. This leads to surprising answers and sometimes to curious chess positions. Leon Mendonca is now playing for the Schachbundesliga team HSK in Hamburg, just like Nihal Sarin. 2/11/2023 – In the 8th round of the Munich Grand Prix on Friday, Alexandra Kosteniuk won against Anna Muzychuk to increase her score to 6.5/8. Nana Dzagnidze, who was second to Kosteniuk before the round, lost to Elisabeth Pähtz and dropped to third place, where she is now level on points with Pähtz. 2/9/2023 – Magnus Carlsen advanced to the Grand Final of the Airthings Masters by beating Hikaru Nakamura in the winners’ bracket final. All four 15-minute games were drawn in the all-star showdown, leading to a sudden-death decider. Carlsen, who presented a bid merely one second shorter than Nakamura’s, drew with black in Armageddon to win the match. Nakamura will face either Wesley So or Arjun Erigaisi in the final of the losers’ bracket.

2/8/2023 – The two strongest and most consistent online-chess players in the world reached the final (in the winners’ bracket) of the Airthings Masters. Magnus Carlsen and Hikaru Nakamura both drew their rapid encounters against Arjun Erigaisi and Wesley So, respectively, and went on to draw with black in Armageddon deciders to set up a much-anticipated showdown. Meanwhile, Alexey Sarana and Dommaraju Gukesh remain in contention in the losers’ bracket.
