9/9/2023 – Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu had a strong showing on day 1 of the Tata Steel India Blitz tournament. The youngster grabbed five wins in a row at the start of the event, but then suffered a few setbacks, which did not prevent him from ending the day as the sole leader. Svitlana's Smart Moves - The epic World Cup duel of Kramnik and Leko

9/8/2023 – In 2004, Vladimir Kramnik and Peter Leko played a match for the World Championship. After a nail-biting series of games, the match ended in a 7-7 draw, with Kramnik retaining his title by winning the 14th game on demand. But Svitlana shows us one of the two wins by Leko (who, incidentally, is celebrating his birthday today!) - a fascinating game with an interesting side story.

World Women’s Team Ch: Kazakhstan still perfect, USA beat China

Kazakhstan, the only team that won all four of their matches so far, and Georgia advanced from Pool A, while the USA and Poland made it to the next stage in Pool B. The Frenchman distanced himself from the rest of the field by 1½ points with a round to spare. Jennifer Shahade resigns from her post as Women's Program Director of US Chess

9/7/2023 – Jennifer Shahade herself founded the women's program in the US Chess Federation, but is now stepping down as its director. 9/6/2023 – Apart from Kirill Alexeenko (to Austria) and Nikita Vitiugov (to England), the FIDE transfer list shows several other prominent Russian grandmasters who have left their federation after Russia invaded Ukraine. Evgeny Alekseev now plays for Israel and Sanan Sjugirov is the new number one in Hungary.

30 years ago: Two World Championship matches in the same year

9/5/2023 – 1993 was a particularly memorable year in chess history. Short and Kasparov had decided to leave FIDE and organise their World Championship match on their own, and FIDE, with its then President Campomanes, then organised an alternative World Championship match with Karpov and Timman. But this was not under a good star. During the opening ceremony pyrotechnics set fire to a banner on the stage.

The FIDE World Women's Team Championship starts in Bydgoszcz

9/5/2023 – Tuesday is the official start of the Women's World Cup in Bydgoszcz. The first two rounds will be played on Wednesday. 12 teams are taking part and the tournament will be played with a preliminary round in two groups, followed by a knockout system. FIDE has announced the line-ups and the draw for the groups.
