Game of the Week #601

The matches that were organised to give Firouzja the chance to gain some crucial rating points to qualify for the Candidates seem not to have been accepted by FIDE. In a last attempt to gain these rating points anyway, Firouzja participated in the Rouen Open and managed to score the required 7 out of 7. We decided to analyse his six round win against the legendary Gata Kamsky as our game of the week. Black's opening play was very unfortunate and White won a model game.

Warm-up question: What would you play here with Black?

The flexible Open Spanish

In this opening Black opts for active piece play and is not afraid to fight for the initiative from an early stage. One of the many good features of this opening is that Black is often the side which controls the pace of the game.
