Last year - controversy. This year - controversy. Prince is probably turning over in his grave...

Dubov's games should count for rating...but NONE of his games should count toward the final standings. This is common sense. People benefit from the non played games.

This is a bigger 'injustice' than last years Firouzja's situation...but will there be the 'outrage'????
Minnesota Fats Minnesota Fats 1/28/2022 07:15
Seems Carlsen missed a complete winining position against Vidit? he had a massive advantage going in the (semi) end game...he should have moved the rook, instead of pushing the pawn forward...
MauvaisFou MauvaisFou 1/28/2022 06:54
What else could be expected, if Dubov was with people with Covid and no masks ?
And Carlsen made a fool of himself by mocking the point Giri got against Dubov.
Jason Rihel Jason Rihel 1/28/2022 04:53
Ah, I see he withdrew then.
Frits Fritschy Frits Fritschy 1/28/2022 03:43
Dubov has covid and left the tournament.
John Maccormack John Maccormack 1/28/2022 03:33
What happened to Dubov today? Was he a no show? Covid? XM
Frits Fritschy Frits Fritschy 1/28/2022 02:57
Jason??
Carlsen will get a free point himself...
Jason Rihel Jason Rihel 1/28/2022 02:32
Is Dubov intentionally giving players who are chasing Magnus free points? Another forfeit?!?
chessgod0 chessgod0 1/26/2022 06:29
Wow. Some powerful combinations from Rapport in this tournament. Very exciting player!

I think Carlsen is backing up very strongly the statements he made straight after the WCh match regarding the possible challengers he may face. Unscathed by the very top echelons even.
tom_70 tom_70 1/26/2022 04:22
I love how MC kicks all their butts, at every tournament, all the time. Just like Kasparov in 90's.. Total domination.
gwrtheyrn gwrtheyrn 1/26/2022 02:01
There was some good chess in this round of the Masters'; it was mostly a pleasure to watch it. But it was sad seeing Praggnanandhaa's decent game come so horribly unstuck around move 40. He might benefit from work on his physical stamina.
chessgod0 chessgod0 1/25/2022 11:06
@KrushonIrina

Yeah they clearly weren't ready for the heat this guy was bringing. Good on him!
KrushonIrina KrushonIrina 1/25/2022 06:54
Erigaisi cutting through the Challengers like a knife through butter.
chessgod0 chessgod0 1/25/2022 03:24
I'm fine with Dubov's actions---I don't think any less of him. In fact, I like him a bit more now.
arzi arzi 1/25/2022 02:50
"This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody’s job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn’t do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have."

Disrepectful to whole humanity! Djubovic- or Dubovgate incident. Who can save me?
Dan Durham Dan Durham 1/24/2022 10:46
<Minnesota Fats> Djubovic!
Stupido Stupido 1/24/2022 12:23
I don't see why Giri is shown with 4.0 in standings. The official site shows 5.0. I understand that Dubov decided not to play if required to do it with a mask, which in my book is stupid, but not disrespectful to anyone.
lajosarpad lajosarpad 1/24/2022 10:19
It's more than disrespect.
MauvaisFou MauvaisFou 1/24/2022 09:17
Short won and said : God was not Bulgarian today
Jacob woge Jacob woge 1/24/2022 12:17
I think the organizers might be doing their utmost to have the matter solved at the chess board rather that away from it. The Short-cheparinov incident springs to mind, first settled as a default but ultimately played.

But of course thats’s just a guess.
Frits Fritschy Frits Fritschy 1/23/2022 11:18
The crosstable still shows Giri and Dubov with 7 games instead of 8. Is there a special reason for that?
Minnesota Fats Minnesota Fats 1/23/2022 07:11
Is Dubov the Djokovic of Chess?
dumkof dumkof 1/23/2022 06:38
Dubov was obviously unhappy with his chess results and unwilling to continue, so that he decided to forfeit this way. Very childish and disrespectful of him.
The Covid restrictions, all over the world, are nothing new. Rules are rules and nobody is above them.
MauvaisFou MauvaisFou 1/23/2022 12:35
It is complete disrespect by Dubov towards Giri
Isledoc Isledoc 1/22/2022 11:21
It was highly disrespectful of Dubov toward his opponent not to agree to wear a mask. It is a pity none of the adults in the Russian delegation did not persuade him. Must be getting his advice from Djoko!
Frits Fritschy Frits Fritschy 1/22/2022 10:47
It is a shame that Tata hasn't been more open beforehand to the outside world about what was expected from players in cases like this. I guess there is something, but I couldn't find it. That would forego speculation. There is something in the FAQ section of the tournament site (complying to Dutch law). As far as I understand from Dutch government sites, you should go into quarantaine when you have been in close contact with someone infected. That would mean that the organisers were too lenient by permitting Dubov to play with a masque.
Michael Jones Michael Jones 1/22/2022 10:25
If Dubov was a close contact of someone who had tested positive, why on earth was he present in the playing hall in the first place? He should have been self-isolating, and arrangements made either for him and Giri to play the postponed game on one of the rest days, or for him to play online from his hotel room.
Aighearach Aighearach 1/22/2022 09:24
A single forfeit is not enough, if members of Dubov's team tested positive and he refuses to wear a mask, he should be sent home and not invited next year.
Dan Durham Dan Durham 1/22/2022 08:29
I've beaten more than just Remlinger. I also beat Carl Magnusen, Nakaru Hikamura, and Viswanathanananana Pragnahahahaha
MauvaisFou MauvaisFou 1/22/2022 06:26
I thought that players from the same country had to play together in the first rounds?
Minnesota Fats Minnesota Fats 1/21/2022 10:39
Sound of mobile phones is disallowed.
Farting is tolerated
Chess pieces making noices is not yet in the rules! It should be forbidden!
Galuna Galuna 1/21/2022 05:30
What is that sound of chess pieces moving on here?
Frits Fritschy Frits Fritschy 1/21/2022 03:16
The online engine keeps on surprising me with its deep insights. In Vidit-Duda, on the 10th move it states that the 'pawn sacrifice' 10 Nxd2 is less good. Maybe it could also evaluate 10 Ke2.
dumkof dumkof 1/19/2022 01:49
I think those who beat Mr Remlinger should automatically be invited to Tata.
tomohawk52 tomohawk52 1/19/2022 05:48
I beat Mr. Remlinger in a tournament game, and I haven't played in Tata.
Frits Fritschy Frits Fritschy 1/17/2022 09:51
Dan, first try winning a tournament with everyone who beat Larry Remlinger and never played at Tata...
Dan Durham Dan Durham 1/17/2022 02:59
If I were playing, I'd be at the top of the cross table. I once beat Larry Remlinger.
