Novy Bor and TAJFUN-SK Ljubljana are European Club Cup champions

10/27/2024 – The European Club Cup in Vrnjačka Banja concluded with thrilling results in both the open and women's sections. Czech team Novy Bor dominated the open section, defeating favourites SuperChess in the final round to secure gold, with Alkaloid and Romania's Vados Chess Club completing the podium. Underpromotion Milestones

10/25/2024 – Pawn underpromotions do not happen often in practical games, but they have been an important topic in study composition more than a hundred years. Recently, the famous Babson task (Black promotes to one of the four possible pieces and White must promote to the same piece in all four cases to win) has been conquered by Gady Costeff in an endgame study. Many thought it to be impossible to realize this extremely difficult task. Arjun Erigaisi made history by cementing Vishy Anand's legacy in Indian chess by becoming the second ever Indian (and we know a third is hot on his heels) to break that elusive 2800 barrier. Caruana beats Shankland to secure fourth US title

10/24/2024 – The 2024 US Chess Championships concluded with Fabiano Caruana and Carissa Yip emerging as outright winners in their respective sections. Caruana secured his fourth national title by defeating Sam Shankland in the final round, finishing 1½ points ahead of his closest rivals. Meanwhile, Yip had already clinched her third US Women's Championship with a round to spare, despite back-to-back losses in rounds 9 and 10. The new Fritztrainers and ChessBase programmes

10/24/2024 – In the future, the new ChessBase Fritztrainers and programmes will no longer be installed from a DVD, but using an installer downloaded from the Internet. This is faster and less complicated than installing from a DVD. Most ChessBase users have already ordered via download anyway. Nonetheless, those who previously installed by DVD can still order the programmes and Fritztrainer by post and will then receive a nice package with instructions and an activation number!
