Intellectual fireworks: A glimpse into Mumbai's Diwali chess-solving spectacle!

11/2/2024 – ChessBase India's week-long, free-for-all Big Diwali Chess Camp concluded on a high note. On October 26, the penultimate day, an intense chess-solving contest took centre stage. The challenge was to solve six complex chess compositions in just two hours. Carefully curated by Satanick Mukhuty, the Chess Composition Editor of ChessBase India, the tasks included four problems and two studies designed to push the participants' strategic and tactical prowess to the limit. Ultimately, among the 35 contestants, the 22-year-old Pushkar Dere secured a decisive victory with a remarkable score of 29/30. FIDE Circuit: Arjun regains lead, Caruana climbs to second place

11/2/2024 – The FIDE Circuit 2024 race saw a shake-up in the standings, with Arjun Erigaisi grabbing the lead following a strong performance at the WR Chess Masters Cup. His gains nudged Nodirbek Abdusattorov to third place, as Fabiano Caruana's recent US Championship victory moved him to second. The competition remains fierce, with Abdusattorov, Caruana and Alireza Firouzja close behind Arjun and poised to advance with fewer tournaments played. Upcoming events, including the Chennai Grand Masters Tournament, will be decisive as the FIDE Circuit inches closer to its final 2024 standings.

Shymkent GP: Tan sole leader after three rounds

10/31/2024 – ARTE Culture, the French-German film production and TV channel, recently made a full six-part dramatic re-enactment of the epic 1997 match between Garry Kasparov and the super-computer Deep Blue. At the same time they broadcast a 50-minute portrait that traces the extraordinary life and career of the global icon. The film contains many historically interviews by personalities from the time. It is well worth watching.

10/30/2024 – In 1968 the Greek Chess Federation, which had organised multiple Olympiads and Zonal tournaments, invited the 25-year-old American grandmaster to play a clock simultaneous exhibition match against five strong Greek players.
