8/4/2022 – After the first two traumatic games World Champion Boris Spassky was leading 2-0 in the Match of the Century. But then Fischer started to play and struck back: in the next eight games he scored 6½ points, chalking up a 6.5-3.5 lead. Games 8, 9 and 10 were quite spectacular, and are the subject of today's report – exactly fifty years after game ten. Younger players will also learn about "adjournments" and how exactly "sealed moves" were handled. Some were born after these practices were abandoned.

8/4/2022 – Going into the rest day at the Chess Olympiad, we have sole leaders in both categories for the first time in the event. Armenia beat India 2 to grab the lead in the open, while India defeated Georgia to keep its perfect score in the women’s tournament. 8/3/2022 – India 2 and Armenia are the only teams that have won all their matches in the open section of the Chess Olympiad. The second squad presented by the locals has four players aged 18 or younger, including Gukesh, who has a perfect 5/5 score after beating Alexei Shirov on Tuesday. 8/2/2022 – Despite a searing heat and at least 32 degrees Celsius, the second ever ChessFest was staged by Chess in Schools and Communities in London’s famous Trafalgar Square on Sunday 17th July, with sister events held in Hull and Liverpool. The UK’s largest one-day chess event saw over 10,000 people visit, nearly double the number from last year.

8/2/2022 – The big rating favourites in the open section of the Chennai Olympiad were held to a draw in Monday’s fourth round: Uzbekistan drew the United States thanks to a remarkable victory by Nodirbek Abdusattorov over Fabiano Caruana on top board. Meanwhile, five teams scored a fourth consecutive victory and are now sharing the lead — the most surprising member of this group is Israel, which beat the Netherlands on Monday.
