Mighty Indians at the World Youth 2015!

12/2/2015 – India sent fifty young and talented kids to participate in the World Youth Championships 2015 in Greece. They returned with a massive tally of eleven medals – five gold, three silver and three bronze. We got in touch with these young kids – the medal winners sent us annotated games. We also have opinions of five-time World Champion Vishy Anand and the coach behind the WYCC success: GM R.B. Ramesh.

WYCC 2015 final: India! India! India!

11/7/2015 – What an amazing final result for the ever-evolving chess nation. It took not only five gold medals out of twelve, but also eleven in all. No other nation managed more than one gold. (Ed: Vishy, check the rear-view mirror, they are coming after you.) The final two rounds were full of drama as favorites fell, and new champions took gold. WYCC 2015 Rd8-9: Rise and fall of the leaders

11/4/2015 – The last two rounds saw leaders rise and fall in unexpected ways. The Boys Under-12 was blown wide open after the leader Abdusattorov fell, leaving ten players with medal chances. The Boys Under-16, as strong a division as there is, is led by Zhandos Agmanov ranked 69. Similarly, Mahalakshmi M from India is the biggest surprise of the Girls Under-18. WYCC 2015 Rd6-7: Steaming ahead

11/2/2015 – It has been a tough event for the top seeds, with many failing even to stay in contention for a medal, but not all. The there are the surprises, some larger than others, with perhaps the most remarkable so far being Iranian Masoud Mosadeghpour, who has dominated the Boys Under-18 with a perfect 7.0/7, the only perfect score left. WYCC 2015: the early leaders and surprises

10/30/2015 – After five rounds of competition, the World Youth championship has hit the midway point. Though many names deserve the highest praise, one of the surprises has been the numerous successes in the Boys events by the Iranians, with leaders in the Under-12, Under-18, and the top seed in the Under-14. Of note also is Egyptian Adham Fawzy, leading the Boys Under-16. A pictorial by Reint Dykema.

Massive WYCC starts in Porto Carras in Greece

10/28/2015 – The World Youth championship has begun in Porto Carras, Halkidiki in Greece, with world championship titles for both boys and girls in categories ranging from under-8 to under-18. As a result no fewer than 1596 competitors have come from 91 nations around the world to vie for a place in history. Here are some of the names to watch for and many beautiful photos by Reint Dykema.
