Two top athletes from Norway: Erling Haaland is one of the best strikers in the world and Magnus Carlsen is the world's best chess player. Carlsen is also an avid football fan and enjoys playing himself whenever he has a chance.

On Wednesday, 3 November, Borussia Dortmund played against Ajax Amsterdam in the Champions League. In the first match, Dortmund went down 0:4 in Amsterdam but the return match in Dortmund went better though Dortmund still lost narrowly.

One of the spectators in the Westfalenstadion in Dortmund was Magnus Carlsen, who watched the match together with his compatriot Erling Haaland, who plays for the BVB. However, Haaland has been injured for some time and cannot help his team at the moment.

Let our authors show you how Carlsen tailored his openings to be able to outplay his opponents strategically in the middlegame or to obtain an enduring advantage into the endgame.
