GCT Paris Rapid & Blitz 2019: Vachier-Lagrave wins!

by ChessBase
8/1/2119 – Day four of the Paris Grand Chess Tour finished with Vachier-Lagrave still in the lead, two points ahead of Alexander Grischuk and Ian Nepomniachtchi, with the latter collecting 5½ points on Tuesday. The best player in the first nine rounds of Blitz, however, was Hikaru Nakamura, who scored 'plus four' to bridge the gap with those atop the standings table. The current US champion is tied in fourth place with Fabiano Caruana and Vishy Anand. Blitz - Day 2

In a day of blitz full of twists and turns, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave just barely hung on to take the overall first place in the combined standings with a final score of 21/36. Viswanathan Anand, Jan-Krzysztof Duda and Hikaru Nakamura were the top finishers in the blitz tournament, each scoring 10½/18.

From July 27th to August 1st, ten participants play 9 rounds of rapid chess and 18 rounds of blitz in the Paris leg of the 2019 Grand Chess Tour. The tournament is facilitated by generous contributions from Vivendi, Canal+ and Colliers International and carries a total prize fund of USD $150,000.

The last day of action in France's capital starts one hour earlier, at 12:00 UTC (14:00 CEST / 8:00 AM EDT).

Looks like Mamedyarov left most of his energy at the Fide grand prix tournament - which was a big win for him. He isn't doing so hot in this one. It makes it even more impressive how he managed to beat MVL in that final match, considering how well MVL is performing in this quick type of play tournament so far.

Your chart shows wrong birth year for Dubov - should be 1996, not 1988.
chessgod0 chessgod0 7/27/2019 08:20
Correction: Grischuk was not born in 1983, not 1975.
