Aimchess Rapid 2022

The award-winning Meltwater Champions Chess Tour, the world’s leading year-round chess circuit, reaches its penultimate tournament with the Aimchess Rapid starting on Friday.

The eight-day event, the eighth leg of the $1.6 million Tour, will feature 16 world-class players including top grandmaster streamers such as Eric Hansen and Daniel Naroditsky.

Participants

Top of the bill is World Champion Magnus Carlsen who is going for a first hat-trick of tournament wins after securing number 1 spot in the last event, the Julius Baer Generation Cup and the FTX Crypto Cup before that.

Carlsen tops the Tour standings with $180,000 earned so far in the 2022 season. India's teen sensation Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa sits second on the leaderboard with $106,500. Five top prodigies will be among the big names hoping to stop Carlsen.

They are reigning World Rapid Champion Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Germany’s Vincent Keymer and a trio of Indian wonderkids in Arjun Erigaisi, Gukesh D and Aditya Mittal, who qualified via the MPL Indian Chess Tour.

The Aimchess Rapid is the last “Regular” tournament of the 2022 season with a prize pot of $150,000 before the end-of-season final event starts on November 14.
