10/19/2022 – Three long-standing elite GMs defeated younger opponents in the quarterfinals of the Aimchess Rapid online tournament, as Magnus Carlsen, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov and Richard Rapport knocked out Arjun Erigaisi, Nodirbek Abdusattorov and Gukesh Dommaraju, respectively. The one exception to this rule was Jan-Krzysztof Duda, who got the better of Vidit Gujrathi. By reaching the event’s semifinals, Carlsen secured overall tour victory with one tournament to spare!

10/11/2022 – Magnus Carlsen is the star of the Aimchess Rapid, the eighth and penultimate tournament of the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour before the final tournament. But the field is strong and with reigning World Rapid Champion Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Germany’s Vincent Keymer and a trio of Indian wonderkids in Arjun Erigaisi, Gukesh D and Aditya Mittal, who qualified via the MPL Indian Chess Tour, Carlsen will face five strong and ambitious juniors. 5/26/2022 – The Chessable Masters is the fourth of nine tournaments of the current Meltwater Champions Chess Tour. In the preliminary 16 players will fight for a place in the knockout phase. 4/15/2022 – The Meltwater Champions Chess Tour breaks new ground next week with the launch of its first fully in-person esports event, the Oslo Esports Cup. Carlsen, who tops the tour standings, heads a line-up of eight of the world’s best chess players, which also includes the likes of Anish Giri and Jan-Krzysztof Duda. The first Major of the season will run from April 22 to 28.

3/30/2022 – India’s own elite online chess tour starts on March 31 with a star-studded line-up of 16 top talents from every corner of the country.

3/15/2022 – The $1.6 million Meltwater Champions Chess Tour will dedicate its next stage to fundraising for the victims of the war in Ukraine, it was announced today. The Charity Cup, starting March 19, will be the second leg of the world’s most prestigious elite online chess event.

2/14/2022 – The Meltwater Champions Chess Tour will continue as a regular online event in the coming years. The Play Magnus Group has signed a five-year contract with the Norwegian broadcaster TV-2, which believes in the Tour and broadcasts the tournaments live on television. All in all, viewers followed the first season in 2020/21 for more than 30 million hours. The Airthings Masters, the first tournament of the new season, starts on 19 February with an exciting and young field of players.
