This week I'm looking at two games in the King's Indian Defence. The game Ding-Carlsen, played in the Magnus Carlsen Chess Tour finals just a few days ago, saw the World Champion playing the black pieces and running into difficulties. This was spectacular.
I'd like to compare that with a game played 70 years ago between Petrosian and Panov in the Moscow Championship in exactly the same variation. It is fascinating to compare the strategies of these games and to see how small differences can ultimately have a massive effect later on.
Warm-up: White to play and mate in 2.
And a crucial position from the game Ding Liren vs Magnus Carlsen.
How do you deal with this aggression?
