Videos from Gibraltar
The fourth and final stage of the 2019-21 Women’s Grand Prix took place on May 22 - June 2 in Gibraltar. Zhansaya Abdumalik had a remarkable performance, winning the event with a round to spare, while Kateryna Lagno’s shared third place was enough to get her a spot in the next edition of the Women’s Candidates Tournament — Humpy Koneru got the other spot granted by the Grand Prix series.
Chess is not all about competitiveness, though, and Gibraltar has become a place that embodies the multi-faceted character of the royal game. The British overseas territory has organized tournaments since 2003 which focuses on creating an amiable environment both for players and spectators.
Following this vein, FIDE recorded a series of well-produced videos with the participants of the Grand Prix. They are asked how they got into chess, what are their most memorable experiences as professional players, what are their hobbies, and, well, what is chess for them...
The aim of this course is to help you understand how to make tactical opportunities arise as well as to sharpen your tactical vision - these selected lectures will help to foster your overall tactical understanding.
Twelve women were interviewed, including broadcaster Fiona Steil-Antoni and FIDE’s Managing Director Dana Reizniecke-Ozola.
Remarkably, the interviews manage to display the players’ personalities, with some of them going over the 10-minute mark while others lasted less than 5 minutes. Below we present a sample of 3 videos, but if you enjoy them, we encourage you to watch all of them, at your own pace, on FIDE’s YouTube channel.
