Cooperation Freestyle Chess and grenke Chess Open

2/13/2025 – Freestyle Chess and the grenke Open have agreed to cooperate. In addition to the grenke Open, there will be a grenke Freestyle Open instead of the grenke Classic this year, in which Magnus Carlsen and Vincent Keymer will also participate. The winner will participate in the Freestyle Chess Tournament in New York. Last year's winner of the grenke Open, Hans Niemann, will receive a wildcard for the upcoming Freestyle Chess Tournament in Paris. Read the press release and register here.

2/11/2025 – Magnus Carlsen and Fabiano Caruana came from winning their initial quarterfinal games at the Weissenhaus Freestyle Chess tournament, and also grabbed wins in their second encounters. Vincent Keymer, meanwhile, scored the draw he needed against Firouzja to reach the semifinals. Javokhir Sindarov prevailed against Hikaru Nakamura in a close match that went to tiebreaks. Lucas Coro outright winner at Ciudad de Montevideo Open

2/10/2025 – The 8th edition of the Ciudad de Montevideo Open concluded with Argentine IM Lucas Coro claiming victory, scoring 8/9 points. Uruguay’s FM Facundo Vázquez and IM Claudio Coppola secured second and third place. In the women’s category, WIM Milagros Tatiana Brizzi from Argentina took first place. Held at the Montevideo Municipality Conference Center, the tournament featured 99 participants from 11 countries.

2/10/2025 – The knockout stage of the Freestyle Chess tournament in Weissenhaus began with the first classical games of the quarterfinals and the ninth-place playoff. Magnus Carlsen, Fabiano Caruana, and Vincent Keymer took the lead in their matches, while Hikaru Nakamura and Javokhir Sindarov remain level after a draw. 2/8/2025 – The 2025 FIDE Grand Swiss and Women's Grand Swiss will take place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, from 3 to 15 September, marking the first time the event is hosted in the country. 2/8/2025 – The first day of the Freestyle Chess tournament in Weissenhaus featured the opening five rounds of the all-play-all qualifying stage. Fabiano Caruana and Javokhir Sindarov emerged as early leaders with 4½/5 points, while Nodirbek Abdusattorov sits in third place. Magnus Carlsen had a slow start, winning two games but also suffering three losses.
