Croatia Grand Chess Tour - MVL wins!

7/11/2021 – The Croatian leg of the Grand Chess Tour is taking place on July 7-11 at the Kongresni Centar in Zagreb. A rapid and blitz event, it features 9 rounds of rapid chess and 18 rounds of blitz. Carlsen playing online from Pamplona

7/10/2021 – While Garry Kasparov plays over-the-board blitz chess in Zagreb, Magnus Carlsen is in Pamplona promoting chess and playing a two-day knockout tournament. The rest of the participants are playing online. Besides the world champion, Wesley So, Ding Liren and Levon Aronian were seeded directly into the quarterfinals, where they face four winners of previous qualifying tournaments. Each match consists of 8 blitz games, played on the chess24 platform.

7/10/2021 – After starting the rapid section of the Croatia GCT with back-to-back wins, Ian Nepomniachtchi never let go of the lead — the Russian goes into the final two days of action a full point ahead of a 4-player chasing pack. In the blitz section, Garry Kasparov will replace Croatian GM Ivan Saric. 7/8/2021 – Two wins and a draw gave Ian Nepomniachtchi a commanding lead after day 1 at the Croatian leg of the Grand Chess Tour. Not only was the World Championship challenger the only player to end the day with a plus score, but he also showed excellent form in the first three games of the rapid section. A hearty chess gesture from the Czech Republic to the Indian state of Kerala

7/7/2021 – The state of Kerala, India found a pleasant gesture from a land faraway, the Czech Republic, when ‘Chess Train’ organiser Pavel Matocha organised a charity chess simultaneous display at Prague to help in its vaccination drive, with the raised money going to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund of the Kerala Government. The motive behind this hearty gesture was no more than the attachment felt with the state of Kerala and its people, when Matocha participated in the ‘Chess Houseboat’ event held during early 2020. The event received support from the top echelons of the Czech Government, as well as the Ambassador of India to the Czech Republic. | Photo: Prague Chess Society

Mihail Marin: My most memorable game

A famed author, he was described by Jeremy Silman as “one of the world’s finest chess writers”.
