World Rapid and Blitz Team Championships to take place in August

4/3/2024 – Following the success of the inaugural World Rapid Team Championship held in Düsseldorf in August 2023, FIDE decided to organize a second edition, which will also include a World Blitz Team competition. The tournament will be held in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, between August 1 and 6, and is expected to bring together a number of top world professionals and chess enthusiasts. Magnus Carlsen has already confirmed that he will be playing for the defending champions, WR Team.

4/2/2024 – The strong A-Open, played alongside the Grenke Chess Classic, saw Hans Niemann becoming the outright winner after scoring 8/9 points. A victory with black in the final round, over Velimir Ivic, gave the rising star clear first place. 4/1/2024 – Magnus Carlsen defeated Richard Rapport 1½-½ on Monday to win the seventh edition of the Grenke Chess Classic. This was Carlsen’s sixth consecutive tournament victory. Johan-Sebastian Christiansen triumphs in Mar del Plata

4/1/2024 – The unforgettable City of Mar del Plata International Chess Open, one of the oldest tournaments in South America, celebrated its 53rd edition from March 23-30 at the Hotel Provincial. After nine exciting rounds, GM Johan-Sebastian Christiansen, a member of the Norwegian Olympic team, was crowned undefeated champion. FIDE ratings - April 2024

4/1/2024 – FIDE published an updated world ranking list on 1 April. The climber of the month is undoubtedly Nodirbek Abdusattorov, who won the Masters at the Chess Festival in Prague and is now fourth in the world rankings after having gained 15 rating points. Also, joining the top ten is Arjun Erigaisi in ninth place, who earned 8 rating points in March, in Shenzhen and in the Bundesliga.
