World Cup: Sindarov knocks out MVL, Ju escapes and wins

8/7/2023 – Magnus Carlsen, Hikaru Nakamura and Dommaraju Gukesh were among the players who advanced to round 4 after two classical games at the FIDE World Cup in Baku. The biggest upset of the round was achieved by Javokhir Sindarov, who knocked out Maxime Vachier-Lagrave by winning with black on Sunday. Helmut Pfleger turns 80

8/6/2023 – He is one of our earliest friends in chess, a personality that has done more for German chess than anyone we know. He started as the country's most talented young player, became a grandmaster, a medical doctor, but continued to promote the game in numerous chess columns and TV shows. 8/2/2023 – FIDE has informed us that they have put the youngest chess player ever on their rating list. The lad has participate in five national tournaments and won a number of titles in his age category. Last March, for example, he won his stat's Under 8 Championship. Like to guess how old Tejas Tiwari is? Wrong, younger!

FIDE ratings August 2023

8/1/2023 – At the beginning of August FIDE published its new rating list. Magnus Carlsen remains the only player with a rating of more than 2800 and is still the clear number one. Hikaru Nakamura follows in second place, five points ahead of world number 3 Fabiano Caruana. Indian juniors Gukesh D. and Praggnanandhaa gained a lot of rating points in July and continue their way to the top.

It looks at the extreme, the unexpected, the untold and the flat-out weird parts of history. "Because as weird as people seem today, we don't hold a candle to history," they claim.
