The series received high critical acclaim, but also resulted in a massive general interest in the game. Now Netflix is poised to release a game that combines the story and character elements from the show, while training players the strategy of the game.

12/25/2021 – Part of the attraction of the Netflix series "The Queen's Gambit" is the design: costumes, buildings and music evoke the 1960s, the time in which the series is set. In a crucial scene of the series the Dutch band Shocking Blue provides the background music. 12/24/2021 – "The Queen's Gambit" is one of the most successful Netflix series and will remain one of the best representations of chess in film. The series contains many impressive and powerful scenes, e.g. the depiction of a tournament in fast-forward mode, fittingly accompanied by the famous instrumental musical piece "Classical Gas" by Mason Williams.

9/21/2021 – After winning nine Emmys in technical categories, "The Queen's Gambit", the chess series based on Walter Tevis' novel, on Sunday also won Emmys for "Outstanding Limited Or Anthology Series" and "Outstanding Directing For A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie". However, former Women's World Champion Nona Gaprindashvili is unhappy about the production - she feels she was misrepresented in the series.

3/2/2021 – Netflix’s “The Queen’s Gambit” was a major success in 2020, with the streaming service announcing in November that 62 million viewers had watched the limited series since its debut on October 23. The series’ success has now also been recognized by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, as Anya Taylor-Joy won the Golden Globe for ‘best actress in a miniseries or television film’ and the series won the ‘best miniseries or television film’ award.

1/20/2021 – Frank Scott's "The Queen's Gambit" with Anya Taylor-Joy as Beth Harmon is the most successful Netflix series of all time, and despite small inaccuracies it convincingly shows how exciting and fascinating chess can be. In fact, the games Beth Harmon plays in the series were almost all taken from actual tournament or matches. But which games found their way into the series? 1/14/2021 – The lives of Walter Tevis and his literary character Beth Harmon have a number of similarities. Both of them experienced a childhood marked by drug addiction, and later, alcoholism, both "lived" in Lexington, Kentucky. And both of them found their salvation in chess. 11/25/2020 – In November 2019, three-time British champion Jonathan Rowson published The Moves that Matter: A Chess Grandmaster on the Game of Life (Bloomsbury Publishing), a wonderful book, abounding with thoughtful reflections about the game and its place in our world. 11/18/2020 – In a recent review for ChessBase, Albert Silver stated that Netflix’s ‘The Queen’s Gambit’ was “the best chess-related movie or series to grace the screen, from the tour de force performance by Anya Taylor-Joy to the gorgeous cinematography”. But, is this opinion shared only by the loyal legions of chess fanatics? Or is the series actually a hit? According to the ratings and the reviews on mainstream media, it is one of the best releases of the year!

10/26/2020 – On Friday, October 23, Netflix started the "The Queen's Gambit", a new series, in which chess plays a major role.
