Budapest: 02-11th February tournaments
The participation of three former European Youth Champions made the event particularly interesting this month. Two of them, the U10 European Champion (2009 in Fermo), FM Benjamin Gledura and the U16 European Team Champion (2009 Pardubice) IM Oliver Mihok , both from Hungary and playing in the GM group, caused a lot of trouble for their more experienced opponents. The U8 European Champion (2011 Albena) FM Alex Krstulovic did the same in the FM-A section.
Hungarian European champions: Gledura, Krstulovic, Mihok
The GM section brought success for IM Nguyen Huynh Minh Huy (VIE), who achieved his first GM norm. He won his last four games of which the hardest one was against Gledura Benjamin in round last but one when the youngest player still had good chance to achieve his second IM norm.

All the games are available either at First Saturday or at FIDE website (links below).

FM Florian Hujbert – almost scored an IM-norm…
IM Sinisa Saric from Novi Sad, for the first time in Budapest
FM Lyell Mark (ENG), living in Hungary as a teacher, won the IM section playing in sharp style. He is a usual participant in First Saturday events and usually Chairman of the Appeals Committee. It was his second IM norm here since he also made an outstanding performance in 2009.
Japanese Olympiad player FM Kojima Shinya almost hit a second IM norm within the three month he spent in Hungary, but failed doing it in the last round against Kristof Koczo (HUN), who was fighting hard to avoid being last.
Zhou Guijue (CHN), the only female player of the group, also
failed in the last round when her WIM norm was so close

Lajos Borda (HUN), an experienced antique books trader in Budapest, won the FM-A group. He is on the right way to achieve his dream in chess that is once to become a FIDE-Master.
Yao Lan (CHN), a quiet and fragile lovely little girl, had a tough test fighting against strong male opponents. She will get her first FIDE rating published on the 1st March list.
