Saint-Petersburg CF wins the European Chess Cup

10/6/2011 – The seven-round event, which took place in Rogaska Slatina, Slovenia, had 65 men's and 12 women's teams participating. It was won by St Petersburg, headed by World Cup winner Peter Svidler. Second was SOCAR, headed by Teimour Radjabov, who scored 4.5/5 points with a 3019 performance. The 27th European Club Cup and the 16th ECC for women took place from September 24th to October 2nd, 2011, in Rogaska Slatina, Slovenia.

Rogaška Slatina (German: Rohitsch-Sauerbrunn) is famous for its curative mineral water, spa and crystal glass. For centuries the curative mineral water, rich in magnesium, the picturesque countryside and other local attractions have drawn visitors to the area. Roman inscriptions referring to the spa waters have been found.

Many top GMs were to be found in the seven-round tournament, including three of the World Cup finalists. There were 65 men's and 12 women's teams. The seven-round event was won by the team from St Petersburg, headed by World Cup winner Peter Svidler, who scored 50% on board one (performance: 2664). Second was SOCAR, headed by Teimour Radjabov, who scored 4.5/5 points with a 3019 performance. Teimour, we hear, is to get married tomorrow (October 7th). Clearly this was very motivating for the Azeri GM. Here are the final standings of the top twenty clubs:

Women's European Club Cup 2011

In the women's section there were eleven teams. The tournament was won by AVS, a team headed by former women's world champion GM Antoaneta Stefanova of Bulgaria. She scored 4.5/6 points with a rating performance of 2674. The team also included GMs Kateryna Lahno and GM Viktorija Cmilyte. Here are the final standings:
