Last year, the FIDE Rapid Team World Championship was held in Düsseldorf, and in 2024 the Kazakh capital Astana is the host. The tournament has been expanded for the second edition to include a World Blitz Team Championship. Matches are played on six boards, and one board must be occupied by a woman and one board is reserved for an amateur chess player with a rapid rating below 2000.
The rapid tournament takes place from 2 to 4 August and is a Swiss tournament featuring 38 teams. The blitz tournament starts on 5 August with a group stage, followed by a knockout final round on 6 August.
World number one Magnus Carlsen, world champion Ding Liren and many other prominent players will be competing.
