
Ramachandran Ramesh is regarded as one of the world's best coaches, with countless successful students, including Aravindh, Hairkrishna and Praggnanandhaa.
The Italian Chess Federation (Fedearazione Scacchistica Italiana) has now appointed the successful Indian coach as Technical Commissioner for its national team. The decision was taken by the FSI's Federal Council on 4 March.
R.B. Ramesh, 48 years old, Grandmaster since 2003, was Commonwealth Champion in 2007 and founded a chess school in his native Chennai a few years ago, with which he became very successful. Ramesh succeeds Loek van Wely, who previously held the post.

The FSI has also appointed a new technical commissioner for its women's national team. Mihail Marin will now take over from Roberto Mogranzini.
The Romanian grandmaster is well known in the chess world through his many books and video courses and speaks fluent Italian as well as his native language, English and German. He was Judit Polgar's second at the 2005 World Championship tournament. He later coached Daniele Vocaturo on his way to getting the grandmaster title.
