The Norwegian Championship is being held in Moss, just south of Oslo, from July 8th to 15th 2006. The reigning champion GM Simen Agdestein is facing a stiff challenge from his student and coaching partner GM Magnus Carlsen, with other GMs like Leif Johannessen, Kjetil Lie, Rune Djurhuus and Berge Østenstad in the 22-player 9-round Swiss tournament.

The host city of Moss lies just south of the capital Oslo. It is known
for paper mills, metalwork factories, the textile producer Helly-Hansen and
the maker of international hotel keycards, Trio Ving.
The tournament is being held in a giant sports hall in Moss. There are
a number of parallel events, for Elite, Master, Classes 1-5, Junior, Senior,
Cadet, "Lilleputt" and "Miniputt"
