Chess Festival Cattolica

At the beginning of September (August 31st to September 8th, 2020) the Italian city Cattolica (province Rimini) organised the 7th Chess Festival Cattolica, offering three open Swiss tournaments. Organizer of the festival was the local chess club L'ASD Accademia Scacchistica "La Regina", the venue of the tournaments was the "Hotel Kursaal".

43 players started in the A-Open, including six Grandmasters, and the Swiss Grandmaster Noel Studer dominated the tournament from beginning to end. He started the tournament with seven wins and finished with two draws to come clear first with 8.0/9.

In round six Studer won a crucial – and fine – game against one of his main rivals, GM Alberto David.
