Dear ACP Board,

I would like to thank you for the letter you sent FIDE regarding your views on cheating in chess. As you rightly point out, the increased number of baseless accusations being levied do more harm than good for our noble game.

On the other hand, one recognizes that with the increased playing strength of computers as well as advances in communication technology, the threat of outside assistance has been facilitated.

During the last Presidential Board in Antalya, FIDE Deputy President George Makropoulos and FIDE Vice President Geoffrey Borg were tasked with identifying measures and reviewing ideas for the improvements sought to reduce opportunities to cheat.

Yours suggestions are welcome and have been forwarded to the persons concerned. Some of the measures you mention such as Arbiter’s supervision and monitoring are actual requirements today already of World class events. Should you wish to further any of your suggestions with Mr Geoffrey Borg you may contact him at [email address given]. It would be appreciated if you would also copy the FIDE secretariat in all communication at [email address given].

I am confident with the full co-operation of all interested parties, the matter will be addressed and resolved in a professional manner.

Yours sincerely,

Kirsan Ilyumzhinov
FIDE President
