Top 52 Women January 2008

In the women's section Judit Polgar stays on the top, but we have Koneru Humpy gaining on her, narrowing the lead by seven points to 95. Still a long way to go, but Humpy is definitely moving in the right direction. Former Women's World Champion Xie Jun is back on the list and in third place. Behind another World Champion, Zhu Chen, we find 13-year-old Hou Yifan, the prodigy sensation from China. She had dropped to place eight in the previous list, and we predicted she would bounce back soon. And bounce she did.

Top 20 Juniors January 2008

Teimour Radjabov has dropped out of the list for age reasons, as has US star Hikaru Nakamura. At the top we now find the two rivals Magnus Carlsen of Norway (17 years and one month old) and Sergey Karjakin (Ukraine, will turn 18 on January 12) just a point apart, and way ahead of everbody else. We should watch Wang Hao, who gained 22 points to rise from eighth to third place.
