Botvinnik’s “Total Chess” Approach

The MAGIC in Chess-Magic stands for Mokra Gora International Chess Academy. It is based at the heart of the Balkans, close to the city of Užice, Serbia, at a four hours’ bus drive
from Belgrade. We have two resorts: Mećavnik and Iver, close together, both products of the imagination of Emir Kusturica.

GMs Vladislav Tkachiev (FRA) and Murtas Kazhgaleyev (KAZ) are the main coaches. FM Carl Strugnell (WLS) will serve as an assistant coach.

Our first Intensive Training Course will be from the 24th to the 30th October 2021 during All-Saints school holidays. Travelling days will be on the 23rd and 31st October, respectively. Buses will be organized to pick you up from Belgrade Airport and drop you back. We will communicate to you the times once we have your flight schedules. A team of experts in Festival logistics are working with us.

The course

The course will be in three languages (Russian, English and French). Groups will be divided
accordingly and will intertwine when language isn’t a barrier. We are aiming for there never to be more than 15 students in a classroom at a time. There are no age group restrictions.

The theme will be the Soviet Chess School - Botvinnik’s “Total Chess” Approach.

Six hours of lessons daily, divided into different workshops:

• Analysis of critical positions and opening Tabiyats
• Lectures (GM Algorithm for evaluation)
• Exercise-Solving (Tactics, Calculation, Endgame, Imagination)
• Two extra hours will be dedicated to training games between students.
• A blitz tournament will be organized midway, when minds become full to capacity.
• There will also be access to sport activities such as Table tennis, Tennis, Swimming, Indoor Football, Weights...

At the end of the camp we shall send a personalised profile to each participant, describing their strengths and weaknesses as we see them, as well as the specific area they should focus on and a method of improvement (provided with databases).

Our experts show, using the games of Botvinnik, how to employ specific openings successfully, which model strategies are present in specific structures, how to find tactical solutions and rules for how to bring endings to a successful conclusion

We have prepared all-inclusive packages at the best possible price. Our basic package for one participant, travelling alone, costs 750 Euros. It includes:

• Full board for 8 nights (accommodation and three meals a day)
• + access to all the lessons for 7 days
• + a round trip from Belgrade Airport to Mokra Gora
• Personalized improvement plan
• Share a twin room and get a discount of a full day (40 euros)
• Children under the age of 12 will also get a discount on accommodation (30%)

Accompanying persons: Parents and other accompanying parties will enjoy relaxing at our resort’s sauna, hiking, or watching a movie in our Cinema. They can share a room and benefit of full board for a 240 euro supplement.

Reimbursements

• In case of Covid restriction: If your country becomes a red zone and you are unable to travel, or if Serbia refuses you entrance, we will reimburse the integrality.
• In case of last-minute cancellation for personal reasons: Until one month prior to the event (23rd Sept 2021) we will reimburse the integrality, no questions asked. After that date we will keep from 30% to 50% of the accommodation costs that you will have on your bill, depending on how short of notice you give us. We will reimburse the integrality of chess activities.
