Game of the Week #473

The World Cup is in full swing and what an exciting event it is. World Champion Magnus Carlsen seems to be in excellent shape, but Fabiano Caruana got eliminated by Jumabayev.

Many other top players are having a tough time, while the new generation is making a name for themselves.

While Tari-Carlsen deserved to be Game of the Week due to the World Champion's magnificent play, we felt we should honor Krasenkow for his creative performance against Alekseenko.

Warm-up question: What would you play here with White?

Practical Chess Strategy: The Bishop

When it comes to strategy, one of the key things that chess professionals understand much better than amateur players is the role of the bishop which is the key theme on this video course.

This week’s show

The Modern Pirc

The Modern Pirc is actually a mixture of the Caro-Kann and the Pirc. In many lines Black combines the ideas of the classical Pirc in which the fianchettoed bishop is important with the Caro-Kann idea to fight for the center with c6-d5.
