9/9/2026 – Who will be the next FIDE President? The election will take place on 26 September at the FIDE General Assembly in Samarkand, during the Chess Olympiad. Three candidates are seeking to succeed Arkady Dvorkovich: Wadim Rosenstein, Jan Henric Buettner and Timur Turlov. Today, they will meet for their first joint public debate, moderated by Grandmaster Maurice Ashley. The debate will give the three candidates an opportunity to present their programmes and explain how they intend to shape the future of FIDE. Maurice Ashley will put questions to Rosenstein, Buettner and Turlov, with additional questions coming from the chess community. According to Chess.com, the candidates have not been given the questions in advance, allowing for a direct comparison of their positions and priorities.
