The "Amsterdam Science Park Chess Tournament" was played in four rating-groups and all in all 320 players took part. To start in group A you needed a rating of at least 2000 Elo. Most of the 77 players who fulfilled this condition were from the Netherlands but with Vitaly Kunin, Stanislav Novikov and Evgeny Alekseev some strong grandmasters the tournament also had its share of strong foreign grandmasters.

With a rating of 2626 Alekseev was clear favorite and with a result of 8.0/9 he lived up to this role and won the first prize of 1,750 Euros. GM Erik van den Doel finished second and was best Dutch player. Lucas van Foreest, the younger brother of the better known Dutch talent Jorden van Foreest finished fifth with 6.0/9 - a remarkable result.
