André Schulz is also involved with ChessBase Magazine and assists with FritzTrainer DVDs. Together with IM Oliver Reeh, he regularly presents the program "TV ChessBase" since 2003, every Friday from 17:00.

7/12/2024 – It was announced today that Magnus Carlsen’s mother, Sigrun Øen, died on Monday after a long illness surrounded by her family. Sigrun Øen was a chemist, but gave up her profession after the birth of her children, and accompanied her son Magnus Carlsen together with her husband and daughters to numerous chess tournaments. Sigrun Øen was 61 years old.
7/10/2024 – Rustam Kasimdzhanov, the 2004 FIDE World Champion, enjoys the status of a national hero in his native Uzbekistan. As a player and coach he is an idol for young chess players. For the second time, a rapid chess tournament with top grandmasters was organised in his name in Tashkent. The master himself took part and had to give way to the youngsters - but only just.

7/8/2024 – After six rounds, Iceland is leading the 50+ tournament at the World Senior Team Championship in Krakow. In the 65+ tournament, the Chess Club Strasbourg, with the Roos brothers, is in the lead. The French have so far only conceded one team point - against top favourites England. 7/2/2024 – The World Team Championships for seniors over 50 and over 65 begin today (2 July) in Krakow, Poland. The USA and England are the top seeds. The first round will be played today at 3 pm.
7/1/2024 – With a current rating of 2832 Magnus Carlsen leads the world ranking list from July 2024. He is 30 rating points ahead of Hikaru Nakamura, who is the world's number 2 with 2802 points. Nakamura swapped places with Fabiano Caruana, number 3 on the ranking list. Hou Yifan is still number 1 on the Women's World Ranking list, while Nodirbek Abdusattorov is the world's best junior. Bibisara Assaubayeva defended her position as the world's best female junior.
6/27/2024 – After nine rounds, three players shared first with 7.5/9 at the Teplice Open in the Czech Republic: Dutch Grandmaster Max Warmerdam, GM Tin Jingyao from Singapore and GM Alexander Donchenko from Germany. 6/13/2024 – The FIDE Ethics Commission is threatening to expel the Russian Chess Federation from FIDE for, among other things, organising chess tournaments in areas of Ukraine occupied by Russia in violation of international law. It has also reprimanded FIDE President Arkadij Dvorkovich for his close ties to sanctioned members of the Russian government. Unsurprisingly, Russia criticised the Ethics Commission's decision.
