Tournament details

The Greek holiday resort of Porto Carras is the venue of the European Club Cup, with Open and Women's competitions for teams from across Europe. In the Open tournament, 61 teams participate with matches played on six boards. In the Women's tournament, 12 teams compete in matches held on four boards. Many strong players participate including World Champion Magnus Carlsen and a further 16 players over 2700 Elo.

Both tournaments are seven rounds with the Open paired according to the Swiss system. Since only twelve teams registered in the women's section, the ECU is using a combined format: two groups of six teams have been formed, each group will play a single round robin tournament (five rounds) and two teams from each group will move forward to a knockout finale.

The total prize fund is 22,000 euros for the Open competition, and 13,000 euros for the women's tournament plus 5,000 euros for board prizes.
