8/5/2005 – Things are not going at all well for the Russian men's team. After a dreadful 1-3 loss to the Dutch they found themselves on place 12 on the table. Ukraine lost to Azerbaijan, and France to the unstoppable Israelis. In the women's section Poland is still a point ahead of Russia, Bulgaria, Georgia and Ukraine. Results, games and pictures.

15th European Chess Team Championship

Israel is on a rampage. The team headed by Gelfand and Sutovsky, defeated the French team 3:1 to consolidate their lead of one match point and 2½ board points. The distance to the others would have been even bigger, hadn't the heroic Dutch team with van Wely, Tiviakov, Timman and van den Doel demolished the Russian squad 3:1. The once dominant Russians are having a bad tournament. They are now on place 12 in the table, behind Greece, Romania and England.

In the women's section there were no big surprises in round six. Ukraine, Georgia and Bulgaria improved their positions and joined Russia in hot pursuit of the leading Poles. Tomorrow is an important round, with Poland up against Bulgaria, and Russia playing Ukraine. Georgia has to play the Romanians, who have had a very strong showing in this tournament.
