The tournament is played in three stages. The first stage is a regional qualifying tournament, for which all players from Spain and all inhabitants of the Canary Islands are eligible. This tournament will take place on Thursday, 20. October 2005. The second stage, a world-wide open, in which players from all over the world do have the chance to qualify for the final, will be played on Friday, 21. October 2005. In both tournaments the prizefund is Eur0 600,00.

On Saturday, 22. October 2005, the huge final will be played. For the final all players with the rank of King are automatically qualified. They will be joined by the people who have qualified in the two preliminary tournaments from Thursday and Friday. Here the prizefund is Euro 2.800,00.

Details about the tournaments: 

Qualifying tournament for Spanish players and players from the Canary Islands

The tournament will be played on Thursday, 20. October 2005, at 17:00 Uhr Canarian time (18:00 server-time). Play will take place in the virtual tournament room "Torneo Dia de Internet". Registration for the tournament starts at 16:30h Spanish time (17:30h server-time). Tournament director is Fernando Moran. We will play 13 rounds swiss with a time-limit of 3 minutes + 1 second increment per move. The first 15 participants fort his tournament qualify for the final on Sunday, 22. October 2005. If more than 150 players take part the number of qualifying places is increased. If two or more players have the same number of points the tie-break of the server applies (first progressive score, then refined Buchholz). 

To take part in this tournament you need a valid account on the playchess.com server. The client for this can be downloaded under this address. Another requirement is to have the rank of pawn, which, however, is automatically given, when registering an account.

Another requirement to take part in this qualifying tournament is that you either are in Spain or on the Canary Islands. Players, who come from another region of the world, cannot play in this special qualifying tournament.

Prizes:

1st place: Euro 200,00
2nd place: Euro 150,00
3rd place: Euro 100,00

The top three Canarian players will Euro 50,00 each. It is possible to accumulate prizes.

Worldwide qualifying tournament on Friday, 21. October 2005

The second qualifying tournament, open for players from all over the world, will take place on Friday, 21. October 2005 at 18:00h server-time (17:00h Canarian time). We will play on the playchess.com server in tournament room "Torneo Dia de Internet". We will play 15 rounds swiss with a time-limit of 3 minutes plus 1 second increment per move. 

Registration for the tournament starts at 17:30h (server-time). Tournament director is Martin Fischer. 

The first 20 participants qualify for the final on Saturday, 22 October 2005. If more than 200 players take part, the number of qualifying places is increased. If two or more players have the same number of points the tie-break of the server applies (first progressive score, then refined Buchholz). 

To take part in this tournament you need a valid account on the playchess.com server. The client for this can be downloaded under this address. Another requirement is to have the rank of pawn, which, however, is automatically given, when registering an account.

Final, Saturday, 22. October 2005

The final on Saturday, 22. October 2005, starts at 12:00h server-time (11:00h Canarian time). It will be played in the tournament room "Dias Del Intenet" on the playchess.com server. 

The tournament will be played in two stages. The first stage is a 13-round swiss with a time-limit of 3 minutes plus 1 second increment per move.

The eight best players qualify for the K.O.-playoff. In this playoff four-game matches (plus a possible sudden-death game) will be played. Here the time-limit is also 3 minutes plus 1 second increment per move. In the sudden-death game White will then have 4 minutes against 3 of Black, but has to win the game to proceed to the next round.

Eligible for the tournament are: 

1. The players, who qualified in the regional qualifying tournament on 20. October 2005;
2.
The players who qualified from the qualifying tournament on Friday, 21. October 2005;
3. All players, who have the rank of King or better on the playchess.com server.

Registering in advance fort his tournament is not necessary. It suffices if you are present in the tournament room when the registration is on from 11:30h server-time (10:30h Spanish time), and when you turn to the tournament director (Martin Fischer) to register.

The tournament director has the right to give wild cards to certain players. Applications for wild cards can be send until Friday 21. October 2005 to the following address: martin.fischer@chessbase.com.

Winner: € 800,00
Finalist: € 400,00
Semi-finalists: je € 250,00
Quarterfinalists: each € 150,00

Places 9 to 12: 50 Euros each

In addition to that there will be 10 "Lucky Wins" in the final. The players finishing on places 17, 21, 31, 41, 51, 61, 71, 81 and 91 will win 30 Euros each. A "Lucky Win" requires that the player, who wants to claim the "Lucky Win" played the tournament to ist end. Prematurely dropping off the tournament leads to a loss of the prize. In this case the prize will go to the next-placed player, who finished the tournament.

Important: 

1. All cash-prizes are paid out, after having deducted the cost for banking transfers and possible taxes, depending on the tax-regulations between the country of origin of the win and Spain. The spoinsor keep the right to change the prize in ChessBase ducats if the cost of transfer are too high.

2. The pay-off of any wins will be done by the sponsors. The tournament directors will forward the mail-adress of any winner to the sponsors and they will contact the winners for details.
